Frequently asked questions

What ages do you work with?

I offer tuition for maths and English for primary aged children.  If there are additional subjects needed at the primary level, this can be discussed. Furthermore, I can work with children who have transitioned to Year 7 who required some extra support to master and feel confident in the KS2 curriculum.

Do you do one to one lessons?

Yes! I can provide one to one lessons. I also run small groups if there is enough interest.

Are you seeing children face to face?

Yes, depending on locality.

What is your availability?

I work during the day and evening Monday to Thursday, I also work on Saturday mornings. Open slots will vary, so please contact me to find out what sessions are open.

How does this work online?

Sessions are held over Microsoft Teams, which is very easy to use. You will receive an invite and you just need to click on the link at the session time.

Can I have a free trial?

I do not offer free lessons. However, I am happy to briefly discuss your child’s needs via email, message or phone before booking. As I feel it is important to work with a tutor you feel comfortable with, the first lesson is booked on its own with no obligation to continue.

How do I pay?

Payment must be made before the first lesson starts within the stated timeframe. After the first lesson, Wheal Education Ltd will invoice monthly, in advance. Books, Thoughts and Talks bundles are payable in six-week blocks. All payments must be made upfront before any sessions. Payment is via bank transfer.

Do you set homework?

Research suggests that at primary age, homework does not have any significant impact on progress – better to let them rest, play and read! However, the Tutor may set some optional practice, play or prepare tasks at their own professional discretion.

Books, Thoughts and Talk focus texts must be read and/or listened to prior to the session. The number of texts may vary from week to week depending on the length of the book

Do you tutor for the 11+?

No.

During my teaching career, I have spent a predominant portion of it at the senior leadership level.
